Adopting animals from a local shelter is a great way to save a life and gain a friend. Adopting animals from a shelter has many rewards, the pet that you adopt will love you unconditionally. The best part is most of the animals are house trained and usually have all the shots necessary for their age. At any shelter, the staff will help you find a perfect pet which you can usually take home the same day! And by adopting you will not be supporting puppy mills or other people who breed animals irresponsibly. Puppy mills are dangerous places where people forcefully breed dogs in order to create a perfect mix or breed. These places are known for animal abuse as they keep on breeding the females leaving no time for them to recover after having a litter of puppies, puppies are kept in crowded cages where they're malnourished and severely injured. And puppies that aren't bought are often murdered. You'll be saving the animals lives, a lot of shelters kill their animals if they aren't adopted on time. Understanding, that you may not have the needs to take care of a pet, you can always introduce the idea of banning puppy mills in your state. Remeber a small kick is all it takes to help the less fortunate. There are no-kill shelters who try to save as many animals as possible, but their space is limited. Most people don't want to adopt because they are worried the animals are returned because they are aggressive or need medical help. But that is false, most of the time pets are returned because they have to move because their new home is too far away or is a no-pets allowed zone, or maybe someone in the house has developed an allergy. Most of the animals in shelters are sweet, well trained, and socialized. And staff will allow you to socialize with the dogs and also they will tell you if there's anything wrong. If you can't possibly adopt, maybe you can foster an animal, volunteer, or simply just donate some money to a local shelter. There are plenty of ways to help out the animals at shelters, go to a shelter and see what you can do to help
