Dure thanks giving break we took a trip to Chincoteague Island. It was absolutely beautiful, every thing was so natural and clean, seemed like any animals paradise, we have never seen so much wild life in one area before, there were eagles, ponies, dolphins, and so much more. The area was so clean, and there was so little pollution in the area. It makes you think, it is possible for animals and humans to live in harmony, where both are happy. During the boat tour, our guide told us, the people on the island treasure their ponies, every few months, vet check out each herd to make sure that all the ponies are happy and healthy. During the tour we are careful to make sure that we do not disrupt the wild life. During the summer, there's the Great Pony Swim. The point of it Is to get herd on the other side of the island to be thoroughly checked, it is also to auction off the foals. The reason is to prevent over population, which could negatively effect the environment. The auction is a humane way to control the population. The auction money also goes towards the auction is also a fund raiser for the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company. The Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company uses the proceeds from the auction to buy fire fighting equipment and to provide veterinary care for the herd. The tour guide also mentioned, that there also is an auction simply to name ponies, which most people go for. The Wild life was breath taking, we were lucky enough to pass a pod of dolphins and catch a glimpse of a bald eagle. We saw many different herds of both Chincoteague and Assateague Ponies. They were so graceful as we watched them gallop through their fields. there were a few foals too, we even saw one drinking from its mother, they were SO CUTE!!!!We highly recommend a trip to the Island for anyone and everyone, it was a lot of fun!
